Student Development Champion / Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead

Salary Range: Band 4 FTE £28,919 - £32,110. Actual starting salary £24,803.40 with performance-based yearly increments available.

Working weeks: 39 weeks (Term Time) and Parent/Open evening as required.

Working Hours: 37 hours per week (08:00-16:00 Mon-Thurs and 08:00 – 15:30 Fri).

Our Student Development Champion's (SDC's) are non-teaching team members that provide the support to enable our learners to overcome barriers to learning. This is a unique opportunity to join a successful academy as part of a supportive and very hard-working pastoral team.

As an SDC with a remit as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), you will assist the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in all matters of safeguarding and child protection across the school.

You may take part in strategy discussions and inter-agency meetings, and contribute to the assessment of children. They will advise and support other members of staff on child welfare and child protection matters, and may liaise with relevant agencies such as the local authority and police.

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes;

  • Possess a DSL Level 3 and Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in safeguarding adults & children or be willing to undergo training.
  • Experience of managing safeguarding in a school or other relevant organisation
  • Excellent record keeping skills and attention to detail, in order to produce reports, take minutes of meetings, and document safeguarding concerns
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with relevant agencies
  • Knowledge of legislation and guidance on safeguarding and working with young people, including knowledge of the responsibilities of schools and other agencies
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Knowledge of CPOMS is an advantage.

We are an aspirational academy operating across two sites. The Lower Academy specialises in the teaching of our Key Stage 3 students, whilst the Upper Academy specialises in teaching Key Stage 4 and 5. The appointed Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead will initially be based at the Lower Academy.
