#BAKINDNESS

On Friday 27th March, both students and staff from the Academies launched their social media campaign: #BAKINDNESS

Eva-Nicole.B - Year 7

Faced with the outbreak of Coronavirus, one of the biggest challenges our society has faced in decades, Basildon Academy students have responded with overwhelming positivity and resolve.

The campaign aims to encourage all of our staff and students who are at home to join in with posts to the academies social media pages, sharing their #BAKINDNESS messages for each other, NHS and other key workers, along with their inspirational messages of hope to the wider public.  Response to the campaign so far has been fantastic, in particular on Facebook, with many members of staff from the hospital thanking the Academies for the messages.

Staff and students still attending the school made a banner to create awareness & support for the campaign, which can be seen flying from the railing outside our Upper Academy.

Students were also looking for ways to take action as well as share words and hit upon the fantastic idea of donating a stock of brand new science goggles to Basildon Hospital. Headteacher Gary Smith went in person to Basildon Hospital to pass the donated items to a very grateful Stephen Griffiths, Associate Director of Operations at the hospital.  “Our students audited the equipment themselves and packaged it ready for delivery.” says Gary Smith. “We delivered 50 sets of goggles on Friday and a further 390 today, along with gloves and aprons.”

He went on to add, “Our students have also made thank you cards for staff at Basildon Hospital.  I am immensely proud of our students and staff, it has been a real team effort and we are happy to be able to do our bit to support our amazing NHS”.
