Cooking with the Royal Navy
A group of Year 10 aspiring chefs recently took part in a cookery challenge set by catering service professionals from the Royal Navy.
The cookery challenge was designed to enhance team building and leadership skills. Jason and Harry gave instructions and guidance to students who were then put into teams to create a main meal and dessert, with just an hour to plate up.
All of our students applied themselves with full commitment to the challenge. The visit was part of our careers programme and students were able to discuss career options within the Navy.
“The staff from the Royal Navy were very kind and the guidance they gave us was very comprehensive. The cooking challenge required us to work well as part of a team, which I enjoyed as it enabled me to communicate and express myself throughout the task. Jason and Harry explained to us what a career in the Navy would be like, which eliminated stereotypes such as how the Navy is portrayed on television and in the movies. This made me reflect that it’s not all about war and danger. Joining the Navy is an opportunity to experience different cultures around the world.” Eluney.B
“Cooking was a fun experience, not something you would usually associate with the Navy. I would definitely do it again if I could.” Sonny.J
“I found it quite cool and I learned more about the Navy and what they do.” Reuban.B
“The challenge was fun and I feel like my teamwork skills have improved.” Adam.D
