Year 10 Business Studies students recently had the exciting opportunity to visit RollaCity skating rink in Rochford.
The trip provided them with a real-life business case study for their controlled assessment exam, allowing them to explore how a successful enterprise operates, the role of entrepreneurs, and the challenges businesses face in an ever-changing environment.
During their visit, students experienced the activities and services RollaCity provides to its customers while gaining valuable insight into the operational management required to run the business. They also had the privilege of meeting James Sinclair, the owner of RollaCity and a successful entrepreneur with multiple businesses in various industries.
In a fascinating Q&A session, students asked probing questions about business growth, managing profit and loss, seasonal trends, and the challenges of running multiple enterprises. They were particularly interested in learning how he started out, the strategies he used to grow his businesses, and how he coped during the COVID-19 lockdown.
The visit also included a chance to enjoy an open skate session, followed by a fantastic lunch provided by the venue. The day ended with another open skate, giving students the perfect opportunity to reflect on their experience while having some fun.
This trip gave students a valuable first-hand look at what it takes to run a successful business and provided key insights for their coursework. They left inspired and equipped with practical knowledge to apply in their studies and future careers.
