Students Reflect on the Importance of International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day took place on Saturday 8th March, and last week, Upper Academy students took the opportunity to reflect on its significance.

Recognising the ongoing fight for gender equality, students shared their thoughts on why International Women’s Day is so important.

To mark the occasion, students posed for photos holding placards displaying their messages of support, which were shared on social media on Saturday.

“Women have been fighting for equality for centuries, yet many still don't have it. It's time to give half the planet the respect they deserve.” Jake-James.N

“If gender equality did not exist in this country, I wouldn’t be friends with most of my friendship group.” Lucy.P

“Without a sense of equality, the world will be pitched on the power and strength of a mere man. Justice is not to be heard but to be portrayed.”Dorca.O

“IWD should be celebrated to honour the women who fought hard for equality and to end stereotyping.” Success.A

“Gender doesn’t define strength; mindset and power do.” Timi.N

“Arms, legs, a body, and a head, all of us are made the same so we should definitely be treated the same.” Morgan.A

“International Women’s Day is an important celebration of women’s ongoing fight for rights. Hopefully, it will inspire cultures that have yet to achieve gender equality to take steps toward change.” George.C

“Equality is important because, without it, many people go unrecognised for their contributions simply due to aspects of themselves that they cannot change.” Hayden.A

“The Academy's commitment to inclusion and equality has shown me how essential equality is for fundamental human rights and overall happiness.” Leon.S
